Ministry of Energy Empowers Technical Engineers

The Ministry of Energy with a Vision to build the capacity of the nation’s young Engineers has funded a comprehensive external training through SALINI for the country’s electro-mechanic engineers in Hydropower operations and maintenance.

Chairing the farewell meeting the Ministry organized for the 9 Hydropower Engineers on Monday 14th March 2016 at the Minister’s office in Freetown, Permanent secretary Zainab Buya-Kamara was quick to caution the trainees that the golden opportunity given to them must be judiciously utilized. She continued that the Engineers would have to write individual reports and certificates will be given based on merit. The blunt Permanent secretary even ended that a clause would be signed between the Ministry and the Engineers for the training and for them to come back and serve the nation for some time.

The many faces of Ebola

LONDON, United Kingdom — “So, you’ve just got back from Sierra Leone. I’m assuming you’re fine? You aren’t sick are you?” I swallow hard but try and sound casual. His expression tells me this is not an unfamiliar question: “I got back two months ago. If I’d caught Ebola, I would probably be dead by now. But you don’t catch it that easily – this misconception is part of the problem I’m trying to address here.”

How Digital Health is Opening Up Communication Between Doctors & Patients

Nothing is more important between a doctor and a patient than communication. The more you communicate, the healthier people get and the more knowledgeable doctors become. Without open lines of communication, important details can be missed, patients might put off appointments for too long and trust can’t be built.

Cloud-based patient relationship management (PRM) systems are one of the latest ways for offices and clinics to keep the lines of communication open. This new digital health technology is providing avenues for two-way communication that makes discussions between doctors and patients easier to initiate, monitor and document.

From Ebola Response to Recovery: The case of President Koroma’s Post-Ebola Recovery and Transition

From Ebola Response to Recovery: The case of President Koroma’s Post-Ebola Recovery and Transition

President Koroma’s Post-Ebola Recovery and Transition Programme is almost six months old, and by all indications, there are remarkable improvements in the key priority areas of the delivery plan in all the fourteen districts. Under the health sector, for example, majority of the districts have benefited immensely – from the construction of temporary triage and isolation facilities, in some hospitals to permanent structures in community health centres to meet infection prevention compliance; on-going intensive disease surveillance and monitoring; improved WASH facilities in peripheral health centres; district-wide vaccination and intensive support for EVD survivors among several others.
