Primary tabs

People of Tambakha and Magbaimba N’dowahun Chiefdoms were in jubilant mood last Saturday, 12th March 2016 when Health Poverty Action (HPA) handed over to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation two upgraded BIMOC health centres.

Mabinty Ansu, trader and mother of three at Kagbereh village in Magbaimba Chiefdom described the event “very important” to the women and children in that part of the country, stating that her women folks have been finding it difficult to access proper health care in the chiefdom. She said before now, youth in hard-to-reach villages used to convey pregnant and sick women on hammocks to the health centre, but with the provision of an ambulance and an upgraded health centre access has been made possible and easy.
Paramount Chief Kandeh Finoh III of Magbaimba Ndowahun chiefdom expressed appreciation to HPA and the health ministry for selecting his chiefdom to benefit from the facility, pointing out that his chiefdom is one of the hardest-reach in Bombali district. He said with the ambulance, solar power, hand dug well, laboratory and labour room will help promote the safety of pregnant women in their moments of child birth.
“These new facilities will surely help reduce the incidents of maternal mortality in my chiefdom,” the Chief so happily stated.
The Program manager for Health Poverty Action, Ibrahim Turay recalled that two years ago they received funds from the European Union (EU) to upgrade the statuses of Community Health Centres (CHC) to a level closer to that of a referral hospital. He said their presence is to hand over the finish product to the District Health Management Team (DHMT) for onward presentation to the communities, stressing that the facilities belong to the people and called on them to use the facility responsibly.
