Today is World TB day…9 million Infected Worldwide

Primary tabs

With this year’s theme “Unite to End Tuberculosis” health professionals, religious leaders, market women, including members of the Fourth Estate, yesterday discussed issues relating to tuberculosis.
Held at the Health Ministry’s conference hall, the media briefing turned out to be an open discussion forum with speaker after speaker making a point on the hazards of the disease, which can be prevented and also has a cure.
Deputy Minister II, Madina Rahman explained that to end the silent killer disease, there is a need for collective effort to step up education about the disease, especially in densely populated communities.
She noted that TB is the world’s leading infectious killer, causing more than 4,000 deaths every day, and this burden of the disease is serious enough to pose a significant threat to the social and economic development of any country.
Madam Rahman, a nurse by profession, added that the theme calls for finding new and even better tools to fight the disease, reaching out to more and more people with TB care services, and to forge new as well as strengthening existing partnerships to reach the Global plan’s target, and to think out of the box and find innovative ways of funding the fight against Tuberculosis.
