Tilorma residents pledge commitment to energy project

Recently members of the national monitoring committee for the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP) energy project, together with officials of TRANSCO-CLSG met with residents of Tilorma Community in Kenema District.

Tilorma community is one of the communities to be affected by the WAPP energy project to be implemented by TRANSCO-CLSG, in this regard the visit to the community by both Government and TRANSCO staff was to update residents on how far the project implementation process is and benefit they stand to gain, after its completion.

Receiving the team, community head Boima Swarray said the initiative by ECOWAS member states to establish a West Africa Power Pool energy project, which will contribute to economic growth, especially for residents in rural communities who do not have access to electricity.

JICA boosts District Health Team

To further improve on health care service delivery in the country, the Japanese International Coordinating Agency (JICA) completed the construction of an administrative and storage facility at the Cline Town health facility.

At a short but impressive handing over ceremony of the two structures, the Chairman for the Committee on Health at the Freetown City Council (FCC), Councillor Mohamed Turay commended JICA for coming to the aid of the Western Area District Health Management Team (DHMT) to provide staff with a proper storage facility and an administrative block which will allow health personnel do their work in a more conducive environment.

USAID Awards Tetra Tech Additional $84 Million to Expand Power Africa Program

PASADENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tetra Tech, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTEK) announced today that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded the Company an additional $84 million to its current $64 million contract under the U.S. Government-led Power Africa partnership.

“The Tetra Tech team is tracking a pipeline of more than 140 active energy transactions at various stages of development, representing more than 20,000 MW of potential generation capacity in sub-Saharan Africa”

Two out of three people in sub-Saharan Africa do not have access to power. Power Africa, launched by President Obama in 2013, aims to connect the African population to the electricity grid and provide access to those who live beyond the grid. Electricity access in sub-Saharan Africa will be expanded to 60 million homes and businesses by adding more than 30,000 megawatts (MW) of cleaner, more efficient electricity generation capacity by the year 2030.

Committee on WAPP discusses Environmental Impact

Members of the national committee for the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP) Project to be implemented by TRANSCO Energy discussed the state of implementation of the project.
Held at its Freetown, Headquarter along Sir Samuel Lewis road, members of the national monitoring committee met to discuss major recommendations from the last session held in December, regarding the WAPP project.

According to the TRANSCO CLSG, Environmental Coordinator, Pakidame Kolani, TRANSCO together with the national monitoring committee will follow all protocols on environmental impact before, during and after the completion of the four Mano River Countries, interconnectivity energy transmission network.
