Sierra Leone Red Cross (SLRC) recently donated assorted medical items to Sierra Leone’s main referral hospital in Freetown, Connaught.
Presenting the medical supplies, Matron Isatu Kamara expressed her appreciation, noting that the hospital is in dire need of such supplies, especially when the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is being implemented; we need logistics.
She emphasized that though Government is trying “we are calling on more partners to come on board.” The matron explained that there are lots of people who cannot afford to pay their medical bills “such supplies would enable this hospital to give its best,” she said.
SLRC Health Education and Training Manager, Raymond Alpha explained that the items donated were given to the SLRC by their partners during the fight against ebola.
He said that SLRC is no longer in the business of treating people therefore they deemed it necessary to donate the remaining medical supplies.
Mr. Alpha also revealed that some of the drugs were given to provincial hospitals and the rest were brought to Connaught Hospital.
