Mike Kraft,

I am torn about publishing this article in the U.S. Resilience System and California Resilience System.  Although it appears to be true, and a strong indication of the seriousness now of the health system damage from COVID-19, I am ambivalent about what this message gives to the public, especially in California, and LA in particular.

Let’s see if any of the RAC team wants to weigh in before we make a decision to publish to the cover page, or just to workgroups and FAC Teams focused on Health System Resilience, Emergency Response, Transportation, Medical Care, Triage, Medical Surge, and Mass Casualty Care, …

Perhaps, we should hear first from Stef Fletcher (a critical care nurse in LA) and Scott Layne (an infectious disease doc in LA), if they want to weigh in.

I think that Mike K is correct that this is already in the public domain.  But we do not lose anything by publishing just to the working groups and FAC teams for their situational awareness.  Overall, I think
that this type of situation is going to continue to rise and so news media may be able to report later with less sensationalism.  So, waiting for the next wave on reporting is fine.

Mike:

My initial reaction is that people should know what is being said on a major media outlet read by many in the public, even though the contents may have negative aspects. The information already is in the public domain.  In any event, I
have to leave the computer by 11 AM for a medical appointment and have other stories stacked up to post before go. I probably won’t be back to the desk until about 1 PM

Bests,

Mike K
